![]() The Premiere is loaded with equipment including the massive panoramic sunroof. It’s not too small, but I do wish for the extra space along with the sliding rear seat in the outgoing model. It is a handsome vehicle though, much more so than the previous model. I can comfortably sit in the rear seats of my 2011, but my head is against the headliner in the 2018. The loss of headroom is not too noticeable in the front but it is in the back seat. The 2018 is not as tall and sits lower to the ground than the outgoing model. Not only are they narrow, but the seat bottom is shorter. I am a big guy (6-2, 250) and the inside is smaller and the seats are noticeably narrower. I’d probably take this new Equinox over any of them if they are all equipped with the base engine.įirst of all, it is smaller. My daughter-in-law has a 2017 Sante Fe, my girlfriend has a 2016 CRV, and I’ve had CRVs, RAV4s and Escapes on as rentals recently so I am up on the competition. If I weren’t going to buy a truck next year and the 2.0L were available, it would be VERY difficult to resist buying this new model. Chevy really stepped up their game on the new Equinox. I’ve driven it for 4 days now and I am very impressed. The dealer gave me a 2018 Equinox Premiere as a loaner with about 1,000 miles on it. He said he does a couple each month and had another Equinox on the lift next to mine. I had a chance to talk to the mechanic who’s doing the repair and he said there's a kit for the repair they replace the pistons and rings, timing chain and tensioner, assorted gaskets, oil and coolant. I dropped my 2011 Equinox (2.4L) off on Monday at the dealer to have the engine fixed under warranty for excessive oil use. Got another GM ride? We love GMC, Pontiac, Buick, even Oldsmobile, post and share all things from General Motors! It handles reasonably well for a family SUV, was reasonably entertaining on the great mountain roads in Salalah, but smooth, easy and friendly to pilot around town./r/Chevy & /r/Chevrolet have merged into one source for everything about the worlds greatest car company: Chevrolet. Admittedly though 260lb ft is better, and with all the kit and lower top end price than the Honda, it’s definitely worth considering the full bells and whistles edition. How is it on the road? Don’t be put off by the 1.5 – we did drive it and it felt up to the task completely, 203lb ft it plenty to keep this moving. Good luggage room, almost as much rear legroom as the CR-V, a comfortable seating position up front, with lots of toys and gadgets including drivers’ aids such as lane-keep and autobraking endows this car with great showroom appeal. It also gets 19-inch allows, leather upholstery, 8-inch screen and driver’s aids such as auto-braking and lane-keeping alert through vibrating seats and so on. The range-topping Premier (4WD only) gets a larger power unit – a 2.0-litre Turbo with 252bhp and 260lb ft of torque, mated to a 9-speed automatic. You then step up to an LT 2WD at AED82,900 ($22.5k) with remote start, power driver’s seat and rear camera. The base model LS (as with Honda) is only a two-wheel drive and comes with a 1.5-litre turbo (the CR-V gets a same-sized engine in the States, but that more modern unit is not on sale here yet) which puts out 170bhp and 203lb ft or torque mated to 6-speed auto. ![]() The prices we’ve been given for the Chevrolet Equinox start from AED76,000 ($21k) and rise to AED110,900 (30k) – ah, got your interest now have we? We just reviewed the all-new CR-V – read that here – and it’s very good indeed with prices starting from AED89,900 ($25k) and rising to AED126,000 ($34k). ![]() So unsurprisingly, that’s the car the Equinox is benchmarked against, matches in size, beats in equipment and undercuts on price. It sits in the same segment as, and goes against, the Honda CR-V – which dominates. Not a brand name commonly known, but one that is massive in America – in fact this is Chevrolet’s second biggest car after the Silverado pickup truck. Hmm… Equinox, sounds vaguely familiar? Indeed.
